Protesters in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture have called for a halt to the controversial construction of a new US military facility. Around 1,000 residents began a three-day peace march on Friday.

Japan has been working on a new facility at Henoko as a new home for a US military airbase currently situated in Ginowan -- both areas are in Okinawa. Protesters also demanded for the closure of all US military bases on the island.
