The wildfire in western Canada has now burned for over a week. Cold temperatures and light rain have finally slowed the spread of the blaze. On Monday morning, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley flew in to the affected area to meet with local officials. She was also given a tour of the devastation in Fort McMurray. Notley praised first responders for their hard work, which she says resulted in 90 percent of Fort McMurray being saved.

Meanwhile, as the fire begins to come under control, officials have begun plans to allow thousands of evacuated residents to return home.

"We lost a bit more than 10 percent of the city, compared to say the roughly 30 percent that was lost at Slave Lake, so this city will emerge from this emergency with real structural resiliency with much or most of its critical infrastructure saved. The city was surrounded by an ocean of fire only a few days ago, but Fort McMurray and the surrounding communities have been saved and they will be rebuilt," Alberta premier Rachel Notley said.
