Canadian authorities say the wildfire in the western province of Alberta is expected to double in size, and warn that the situation in the oil sands region is "unpredictable and dangerous."

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said the fire remains out of control. The fire started last Sunday, forcing the evacuation of almost 100-thousand Fort McMurray residents.

Winds pushed the flames east of the epicenter around the oil city late Saturday, and authorities are prepared to evacuate another 25-thousand still trapped in the north. More than 1,500 square kilometers have been destroyed since.
