To celebrate China's annual Youth Day, which falls on May 4th, a dazzling gala featuring students from around the country will be aired on CCTV's Channel One.
Intangible cultural heritage will be front and center at this year's "Flowers in May" gala.
One example is "Suzhou Pingtan", which is story-telling and ballad singing in the Suzhou dialect. The artform is also very popular in Shanghsi, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces.
Another intriguing instrument is the metal-stringed Enshi Yangqin, played with a bamboo plectrum.
Clad in ethnic costumes, students from Hubei Province will play these instruments and accompany folk songs.
The "Flowers in May" gala - to be broadcast on CCTV Channel One on the night of May the 4th - will also include dancing and cross-talk shows.
