Ecuadorian authorities say the death toll from the earthquake that rocked the country on April 16 has reached 602. The latest figures also register over 12,000 injured and 130 missing. Nearly 7,000 buildings were destroyed and over 2,700 buildings were damaged. More than 26,000 people are in shelters.
The head of the country's Geophysical Institute said that aftershocks up to magnitude 6.8 may be felt in the coming days. The earthquake, which registered 7.8 on the Richter scale, mainly affected the towns along the coast of Manabi province.
