Syria’s main opposition has formally suspended its participation from peace talks in Geneva. UN Special Envoy Stefan De Mistura announced the pause – though he said what he called "technical discussions" would continue.
Postponed. But Syria’s peace talks haven’t yet collapsed.
"I heard today – by meeting the delegation of the HNC -- their intention to postpone their formal participation in the parley to the negotiations – in order to express their own displeasure and concern on the humanitarian situation degradation and on the problems related to the cessation of hostilities," said Mistura.

The fighting has been intensifying on several fronts for days -- but Aleppo seems the worst affected.
Aid agencies say more than 100-thousand civilians are now trapped: the vast majority unable to flee across a closed Turkish border.
But negotiators here maintain the cessation of hostilities hasn’t completely collapsed – so they want until Friday when they’ll re-assess the situation on the ground. Between now and then – discussions will in fact continue.
Though there is now another potential sticking point. Israel has mostly kept some distance from the conflict to its north – but on Sunday it held a cabinet meeting in the disputed Golan Heights.
Speaking earlier on Monday, the Syrian government reacted furiously.
"We re-affirmed to De Mistura Syria’s right to recover the occupied Syrian Golan for the lions of 1967 by all legal means according to the U.N. charter, including Article 51 of the Charter on self-defense," said Bashar Jaafari, head of Syrian government delegation.

Over the last six days – there has been little progress here.
Over the last six weeks -- there had been, here. But it’s fast unravelling.
