High-level government officials from nearly 30 countries and organizations have met in Brussels to discuss overcapacity in the global steel industry.
The Chinese delegation said in a position paper that excess capacity is a common challenge for all steel producers. The delegation said overcapacity needs to be tackled through shared efforts and that trade remedies and other measures aren't addressing the root causes.
The paper also outlined China's achievements and plans to deal with overcapacity, including reducing production by more than 100 million tons over the next five years.
