The AFC Champions League. The defending champions -- Guangzhou Evergrande have their work cut out for themselves, if they want to hold onto their title. Early round troubles in the group stage means, they need wins in their last two games, and help to progress to the next round. And they will be in action tonight, as they travel to South Korea for a battle with Pohang Steelers in Group H.
No, despite their continental troubles, they have been in solid form in the Super League. They surged back to beat Henan Jianye 2-1 Friday for their fourth straight victory. But the Asian champs have had a hard time in this club tournament, as Luiz Felipe Scolari's men have only two points out of four games. Evergrande hope they can carry their domestic momentum into the Champions League. The star studded team must beat Pohang in order to boost their hopes of qualifying to the next round.
Evergrande face must-win against Pohang.
So this is how Group H looks at the moment. Guangzhou are third with two draws and two losses in the competition so far. Leaders Sydney FC have nine points and already secured a place in the next round. Urawa Red Diamonds are second with seven points, five better than Evergrande. Meanwhile CSL club -- SIPG will face Melbourne Victory in Group G. Debutants SIPG have had a much easier tournament than Guangzhou. Sven Goran Eriksson's side have won three of four in the group.
