CSL outfit SIPG was on the road in Japan, taking on Gamba Osaka in Group G, and a win by the visiting team would see it stay on top of the pool.

In the 21st minute, Elkesson fires a powerful shot from outside the area. The Osaka keeper parried the ball to the path of Yu Hai, but the Chinese forward missed from close range. It remained 0-0 at half-time.

The Chinese Super League side broke the deadlock in the 65th. Wu Lei was played through off a clever 1-2 and fired a low shot into the net. It was 1-0. The striker combined well with Lyu Wenjun before finishing. Osaka’s defence was unable to handle to the quick play.

Shanghai doubled the tally seven minutes later. Wu’s shot was denied by the keeper, but Lyu was set up from long range. The SIPG midfielder unleashed into the back of the net. Lyu fired without hesitation, and the ball hit a defender before sailing into the net. Shanghai held on to win it 2-0 and take control of Group G.

SIPG 2 - Gamba Osaka 0

SIPG now leads the group with nine points. It has won the last three matches after losing its opener to Melbourne Victory. The Australian side drew 1-1 with Suwon and is three points behind in second. Suwon is third with three points, while Gamba is bottom of the group without a victory so far this campaign.
 
In Group E, Jiangsu hosted FC Tokyo. The home side feature the Brazilian trio of Ramirez, Jo and Alex Teixeira. Jiangsu came into the match in second place in the group with five points from three matches.

Tokyo was one point behind the Chinese club, but took the lead on the half hour mark. Masato Morishige scored with a fierce low drive just inside the area. Jiangsu trailed 1-0.

But the host team was given the opportunity to equalize just two minutes later. Former Chelsea midfielder Ramires was brought down in the box after tripping over Kento Hashimoto. The referee awarded a penalty to Jiangsu.

Jo made no mistake from 12 yards. It was 1-1 at half-time.

But the Japanese club restored the advantage seven minutes from time. Morishige almost scored in the same style as he did in the opening goal. Tokyo beat Jiangsu 2-1 thanks to this effort off a corner.

The win moves Tokyo to the top of a wide-open Group E on seven points. South Korea’s Jeonbuk Motors is one adrift in second. Jiangsu sits third on five points, with Vietnam’s Binh Duong bottom with four.
