New York prosecutors are pressing Apple to provide private data stored on an accused drug offender's iPhone. The Justice Department asked a judge on Friday to force the high-tech company to release -- pictures, text messages, and other digital data from an iPhone used by the accused.

Just two weeks ago, the government dropped its effort to require Apple to crack an iPhone in a shooting trial in California, saying it had unlocked the phone without Apple's help. An Apple attorney said the company was disappointed but not surprised that the government is continuing to fight to access encrypted data.
