To the ice now, for action from the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston. China's Jin Boyang was contending for a place on the podium heading into the final phase of the men's competition. And if he could grab a top-three spot -- it would make the 18-year-old Harbin native the first male from the PRC to earn an individual medal, in the history of this event.

Jin is fifth coming into the free skate. He chooses the music "How To Train Your Dragon" for his routine, and is able to stay upright as he performs a Quadruple Lutz at the start. He comes close to tumbling, but is able to keep his balance.

While doing a triple flip Jin would once again get close to the boards -- but he once again is able to keep his composure.

Jin, who has been known to perform the hardest routine in history, is able to land a few more jumps -- as he performs a toe-loop.

He does not have any difficulties, as he is able to complete all his leaps. Although he is not always in tune with the music -- those minor flaws do not garner much of a deduction from the judges.

Finally Jin earns 181.03 points in the freestyle, to claim a bronze with 270.99 in total. Spaniard Javier Fernandez defends his title, while Sochi Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu has to settle for silver.

PRC duo earns second-highest score in segment history

Meanwhile, the Chinese couple of Sui Wenjing and Han Cong would be looking to make their mark in the pairs short program. Sui and Han grabbed silver medals at the 2015 World Championships in Shanghai, and were gold medalists at the just concluded Four Continents event.

The pair would choose a Spanish love dance song as the music to accompany their routine, and they began the competition with triple toe loops.

Those moves are followed by a nice thow, which ends with Sui completing a triple flip.

The duo are able to grab 80.85 points from the judges, their highest total ever -- and the second highest in history, as they lead going into the long program.
