Chinese President Xi Jinping is in Washington for this year's Nuclear Security Summit. The summit began with a banquet hosted by US President Barack Obama. Xi stressed the need to strengthen international nuclear security systems.
He also addressed the importance of minimizing the risks of nuclear material proliferation, especially in a period when terror threats are increasing.
The Chinese president said previous summits have helped the peaceful use of nuclear power, and have contributed to the maintenance of international nuclear security. He said the nuclear security challenge is a responsibility for all, and the international community can overcome difficulties with united efforts.
