RAMADI, Iraq, March 15 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and 13 others wounded in a car bomb explosion in Iraq's western Anbar province on Monday, a local police source said.
The blast took place in the morning when a booby-trapped car parked at a main road detonated in the city of Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The attack occurred at a crowded place where many construction workers were waiting to be hired for day-long jobs, the source said.
The blast apparently missed an Iraqi army patrol which passed the scene just before the explosion, the source added.
The attack came about a week after the country's landmark parliamentary elections, in which Iraqis made a turnout of 62.4 percent across the country.
Anbar province has been relatively calm in the past few years after Sunni tribes and anti-U.S. insurgent groups turned to cooperate with the U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces against al-Qaida in Iraqi network.
