Residents of Swat, a former tourist valley northwest of the Pakistani capital Islamabad, say Taliban militants do not want to see peace return to their valley. An explosion rocked its major town on Monday. Police say at least six people were killed and several others injured.

And there's been more violence elsewhere in Pakistan. A blast has ripped through the outskirts of the northwestern city, Peshawar. Police say a powerful remote-controlled bomb injured one person. Reports say the attack targeted the vehicle of local peace committee members.

The suspected suicide bombing targeted a security forces convoy in Mingora, the main town of Pakistan's Swat valley.

Faqir Mohammad, Eyewitness, said, "We were standing there, when suddenly there was an explosion. After that I don't know what happened. There was firing. "

The attack has broken several months of relative peace in Swat.

Last April, the military launched a major offensive against Pakistani Taliban militants there.

The fighters were largely cleared out after months of clashes.

Parvez Alam, Mingora Resident, said, "After the return of peace to Swat, this attack is highly condemnable. It looks like the barbarians are not happy to see peace in our valley."

Curfew has been imposed in Mingora, and the wounded are being treated in hospital.
