KABUL, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants raided a police checkpoint in the troubled Helmand province south of Afghanistan in the wee hours of Tuesday and killed four policemen, spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said.

"The rebels raided a police checkpoint in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah in the wee hours of today and killed four police constables," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

However, he failed to say how the militants infiltrated into the provincial capital, adding the militants possibly were in contact with the ill-fated policemen and deceived them.

Taliban insurgents who have intensified their activities have not made any comment.
