Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |
ANKARA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish Health Ministry announced a new confirmed case of influenza A/H1N1 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of the fatal virus in the country to eight.
The Turkish Health Ministry said in a statement that the influenza virus was detected in a Turkish citizen who returned from the Unites States.
The patient, who arrived in Turkey on May 28 from New York, was quarantined, the Health Ministry said in the statement.
The patient was detected to have infected the influenza A/H1N1 virus after being admitted to a hospital on Tuesday complaining of fever, headache and fatigue.
The ministry on Tuesday confirmed the virus in three other Turkish citizens that traveled back from the United States at the weekend.
Turkey reported four cases of the deadly H1N1 virus in May - a U.S. citizen of Iraqi origin and his mother who were flying through Turkey to Iraq, and two Turkish citizens returning from the United States. The two Iraqi-born U.S. nationals were released after being treated at a hospital in Istanbul.
