2 suspect SARS cases in Japan remain unconfirmed

A health ministry panel said Tuesday that 10 of the 12 suspect severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases in Japan have been confirmed as false alarms,but the remaining two cases are to be identified, Kyodo News reported.

The panel of the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said, "It is difficult to decide whether they are infected with SARS at present."

The 12 cases were reported between April 14 and April 21.

Reports of suspect and probable cases have risen to 56 since Japan reported its first suspect case on March 18. Of these, 54 cases have so far been found unrelated to SARS, Kyodo said.
