James Chau (鍛寤鎴 is the host and co-producer of World Insight. The half-hour weekly programme offers an in-depth Chinese perspective on recent, current and emerging global events. He also anchors the morning/lunchtime flagship news on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Since joining CCTV, he has presented live studio coverage on issues such as the protection of intellectual property rights and anchored major stories, including the National People's Congress (NPC). He also filed reports on HIV/AIDS in China and the country's population challenges.

Chau has interviewed a number of prominent figures. Amongst them, US presidential candidate, Ralph Nader; Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Najib Tun Razak; Hong Kong Chief Executive, Tung Chee-Hwa; fashion photographer, Lord Snowdon; Oscar-winning film producer, David Puttnam; and a sixtieth birthday special with the former King of Greece, Constantine II.

As a reporter, he has travelled extensively throughout Asia, Europe, the US and the Middle East to cover the September 11th terrorist attacks; Chinese President Hu Jintao's 2002 three-nation tour; China's entry to the World Trade Organization; Beijing's winning bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games; Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi's trip to the United Nations, following the outbreak of SARS; as well as talks at the White House between the Hong Kong and American leaders, Tung Chee-Hwa and George W. Bush.

Chau, 26, was born and brought up in London to a family from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Prior to joining CCTV he was an anchor/reporter for Television Broadcasts Hong Kong (TVB Pearl). He also contributed to the Sunday Mirror, the Evening Standard and is a former news features editor of the Cambridge University paper, Varsity.

He graduated from Cambridge University and King's College London, studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music and became a Freeman of the City of London in 1999. Now based in Beijing, he is working on his first book.
