“CCTV Cup” English Speaking Contest Countdown
All the participants come from universities across the entire country. The preliminary contests were organized by the foreign language departments of every university, and the quarterfinals were organized by the provincial Foreign Language Teaching and Research Committee, which is also responsible for liaison work.

From now to the end of November, every province will hold its quarterfinals. So far, four provinces have completed their quarterfinals, deciding the contestants for the semi-finals in Beijing.

The four are Henan, Xinjiang, Hunan and Chongqing, and the top three contestants from the remaining provinces will be decided in the following two weeks.

At the beginning of December, all semi-finalists will gather in Beijing, and go all out for the final glory!

Who will win out
The top 90 contestants who have advanced from regional contests are gathering in Beijing for the final quest for the prestigious CCTV CUP on December 11 and 12. Being organized by the English Channel of CCTV and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, the event is designed to exhibit the demeanor of modern Chinese youth, meet the ever-growing demand for a variety of English language abilities and boost public interest in English learning.

Contest format

Three presentation sections popular in English-speaking countries:
a set-topic speech, a question-and-answer session and an impromptu speech.

Qualification for final entry

The top three winners in each of 30 regions have qualified for the semi-finals in Beijing. The top 20 finalists will then participate in the final showdown in the studios at CCTV.





Schedule / Awards
During the finals, the panel will pick a champion, two second-place winners and three third-place winners.

The other 14 finalists will be awarded fourth-place prizes. Apart from the CCTV CUP and winners' certificates, the top 20 contestants will receive international language and culture exchange trips sponsored by the contest organizers.

The champion and a tutor will participate in the weeklong annual English Speaking Union Cultural Seminar in Great Britain in the spring.
