China's top advisory body -- the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference - is prepared to elect its new leadership. The presidium of the First Session of the ongoing 10th CPPCC National Committee, has approved the proposed list of new leadership candidates. More than half of the top incumbent CPPCC officials will retire from their posts.

Jia Qinglin, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the CPPCC presidium meeting on Sunday.

Members of the CPPCC presidium unanimously passed the leadership list proposed by the CPC Central Committee.

Liu Yandong, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the meeting saying the list was first put forward shortly after the 16th National Congress of the CPC was held last November.

According to the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the new CPPCC leadership should be elected in line with the leadership transition of the CPC.

Younger officials will make up the majority of the top posts including CPPCC chairman and vice chairmen. Seventeen out of the 32 members of the Ninth CPPCC leadership will not be nominated this time.

The number of vice chairs is scheduled to reduce from 31 to 24 while more than half of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee will be recruited with younger members.

The list is expected to win approval on Thursday when the CPPCC plenary meeting is assembled at the Great Hall of the People.
