NPC deputies, CPPCC members arrive in Beijing

    Trains carrying the first groups of deputies to the First Session of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) arrived in Beijing Saturday. Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from China's two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macao, also arrived on Saturday.

    Over 2,900 NPC deputies are expected to attend the annual session which is due to open on Wednesday. They will consider bills handed over to the NPC.

    Of the 175 members from Hong Kong, 69 are new faces, while 14 of the 33 members from Macao are new ones. They are in Beijing to attend the first session of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, which is scheduled to begin Monday.
