NPC deputies arrive in Beijing for first session

    Deputies to the 10th National People's Congress have arrived in Beijing to attend the first session. The deputies come from every corner of China and of all walks of life.

    The moment they stepped onto the soil of the capital, the NPC deputies were swamped by journalists. Many deputies arrived with a host of well-prepared proposals concerning the life of local people in the area they represent, as well as economic development and other major national issues.

    "I'm from the grass-roots level of a rural area. In the coming session I will focus on how to conduct farm work within the principles of environmental protection, and thus lead the people to an all-round well-off society, " said NPC Deputy Gao Dekang.

    Zhang Lijun, a deputy from a state-owned firm, said: "I'm a deputy from a state-owned firm of an old industrial base. I have some suggestions for deepening the reform of state-owned enterprises and fully developing the state-owned economy."

    Another deputy Tan Zhongchi said: "This session is the first one after the 16th CPC National Congress, and it is of great importance to our country."

    The First Session of the 10th NPC is scheduled to open in Beijing on Wednesday. More than 2,900 deputies from all walks of life around the country are expected to attend the coming annual session to discuss state affairs and elect new state leaders at the session in the following weeks.
