The establishment of Godson Industrial Alliance on Monday, the first information technology team－up with Chinese－owned intellectual property rights, marks a new era in the industry. With China becoming one of the world's biggest IT manufacturing bases, the ownership of Chinese IPR is crucial for China's long march towards becoming an IT powerhouse.
The Godson Alliance, based on the first Chinese－invented central processing unit, "Godson", was founded Monday in Beijing. It aims to form China's first industrial chain, from CPU to computers, servers to network routers and operating systems to software applications.
The initial members of the alliance are Institute of Computing Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the inventors of Godson, the household electronic appliance giant, the Hai'er Corporation, the Great Wall Computer Software and Systems Incorporate Limited, China Software and Service Company, the Linux OS provider Red Flag Software, and the high－performance computer firm Dawning Information Industry.
Yu Zida, vice－president of Hai'er Corporation, said, "Currently, most Godson CPUs were used in E－government. This sector is also our largest market."
The alliance will focus on the application of Godson CPU and related applications in electronic－government, financial sector, industrial automatic control, telecommunications, handheld devices and information electronics in its initial stages.
