Shenzhou V spacecraft Retrieval

The Shenzhou V spacecraft, carrying China's first "taikonaut" or astronaut, Lieutenant Colonel Yang Liwei, safely touched down on the plains of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at 6.23 am. on October 16. It was launched from the Jiuquan launch pad on the morning of October 15, to spend 23 hours orbiting over 600,000 kilometers around the Earth before returning to Earth.

Wen Jiabao, Chinese Premier, said:"The smooth all-round success of China's first manned space flight has marked a magnificent undertaking fulfilled by the Chinese nation as we endeavor to conquer the peaks in the world of science and technology."
