Chinese Taikonaut takes his first rest in outer space

cctv.com 10-15-2003 14:58

Chinese Taikonaut Yang Liwei has taken his first rest after the launch of the Shenzhou V, as the spacecraft makes its second orbit around the Earth. The video signal sent from Shenzhou-V shows Yang Liwei lying on his back in the re-entry module, breathing normally and appearing relaxed. His resting time will last three hours. On the ground, three Chinese rescue vessels standing by on the high seas have been directed to return to port following the success of the launch.

These ships had been charged with rescue efforts in the event of any search and salvage mission for the re-entry capsule in case the spacecraft developed any technical problems during the launch process and splashed into the sea.

Meanwhile, Chinese search teams are looking for the black box and wreckage of the Long March II F Rocket, which fell to the ground after thrusting the spacecraft into its designated orbit.
