China´s first manned spacecraft blasts off

The Shenzhou V manned spacecraft, wholly designed and developed by China, blasted into space in Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The spacecraft was piloted by Yang Liwei, 38, a lieutenant colonel of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
