Hong Kong vindicates "One Country, Two Systems" policy
   SAT, JUN 29, 2002

As the clock ticks down to Monday's fifth anniversary of Hong Kong's return of sovereignty to China, some prominent figures in the special administrative region are voicing their praise for the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy. They said that although Hong Kong is currently under the shadow of the global economic recession, it still enjoys a promising future with a great potential for development.

Henry Ying Tung Fok, the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, says he still remembers the feeling when Hong Kong returned to China. He said it was not until that moment he truly sensed he was Chinese.

Tsang Hin-chi, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, says the policies of "One Country, Two Systems", and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" were successfully implemented and have been internationally acknowledged over the past five years.

Tsang Hin-chi said:"The successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy is embodied in many aspects. The legal system and living style in Hong Kong still remain the same. As the center for finance, shipping, tourism and trade in Asia, Hong Kong is developing steadily."

For many Hong Kong residents, the return of the sovereignty to China was not only a formality, but also an important personal event. Many in Hong Kong see the future of all of China as important as that of Hong Kong. They plan to make Hong Kong a bridge linking China with the international market.
