| WTO Challenges Demand Skilled Workforce |

China needs a highly skilled workforce to meet the challenges following its entry to the World Trade Organisation. This was the consensus of a number of legal experts and educators meeting on Wednesday.
Economic globalisation is exposing both market regulators and entrepreneurs to more and more international opportunities and competition. Participants in the seminar say China will need people who not only have a good command of foreign languages but also are well-versed in international trade and law, to help it compete in the world market.
Huo Xiandan, an official of Ministry of Justice said,"Dispute resolution within the WTO is based on law. We need legal experts in international trade to ensure that we are not disadvantaged by the system."
Educators are answering the call by changing their school curriculums.
Zeng Xianyi,professor of People's University said," Educators are thinking about adding new classes to the courses to cover areas such as international trade, intellectual property rights and technology. They are also working to improve foreign language education."
About 180,000 students and in-service people are majoring in law at colleges and universities. Many of them have made their choice to help boost their job prospects.
China is also planning to increase both the quality and quantity of the country's some 100,000 lawyers.
