SARS toll increases to 32 in Canada |
|
A review of old cases has turned up another severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) death in Toronto,thus increasing the number of SARS deaths to 32 for the country, the local press said on Monday.
The chief health officer of Ontario Province, Dr. Colin D'Cunha, told reporters that the patient died at Scarborough General Hospital on May 20 in Toronto.
Meanwhile, a review of five deaths at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital in Toronto has found that two of those deaths were not caused by SARS. The other three cases should be classified later this week.
The number of deaths of SARS is 32 and there are 62 active probable cases and 10 suspect cases in the Toronto area, D'Cunha said.
It is reported that more than 8,000 people are under quarantine in Toronto city. Besides, quarantines have also effectively closed down a daycare center and a school in the town of Parry Sound, about 190 km northwest of Toronto.
