Philippine reports seven SARS patients, total cases hit 10 |
|
The Philippine government announced on Tuesday that it had seven more Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases, bringing the total number to 10, but all the newly found patients were live and on their way to recovery.
Of the seven, four were health workers and three were close relatives of the father and daughter who died from SARS in April, the ABS-CBN on-line news reported.
The government said earlier that there is no community spread of SARS documented in the Philippines to date. The father and daughter's hometown in the northern province of Pangasinan was put under quarantine after their death, but was later declared SARS-free.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared the period from May 5 to May 9 as anti-SARS week in a bid to boost public awareness.
The Department of Education (DepEd) announced Tuesday the launching of a week-long Anti-SARS campaign in all schools nationwide from May 19 to May 25.
Education Secretary Edilberto de Jesus said the DepEd is also closely coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government on the implementation of the National Anti-SARS Action Plan.
Consorcia Lim-Quizon, Head Executive Assistant of the DOH, said through its quarantine and surveillance teams, the DOH is making sure that SARS is prevented from entering the country.
