El Salvador strengthens border control to prevent SARS
   TUE, APR 29, 2003

El Salvador has strengthened its control over air, sea and land entry points to fend off the virus that produces severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

A Salvadoran Health Ministry spokesman told the press on Sunday that the ministry and the General Migration Direction set up vigilance posts at over a dozen places to check passengers, following recommendations from the Pan-American Health Organization.

The sanitary staff, deployed in entry ports of El Salvador, will examine and move to medical centers individuals suspected of SARS.

By now, no SARS cases have been confirmed in the Central American country.
