Mandy by West Life
West Life為了紀念成軍五週年的光榮時刻，他們選擇BMG集團史上第一首冠軍曲，發揮翻唱功力，挑戰“情歌祖師爺”貝瑞曼尼洛〈Barry Manilow〉75年轟動英美冠軍歌曲“曼蒂”〈Mandy〉。West Life想要重新詮釋這首當時的經典歌曲時，其實是相當有難度的。但是事實證明他們確實成功了！這首歌贏得了2003年度英國最佳單曲的殊榮，並向世人證明，出道5年後, West Life仍然是英國最受歡迎的歌手。

II. 美女歌后 Shania Twain
中國人一般把她的名字翻譯成仙尼亞 唐恩,按照正確的發音應該是(Shu-nye-ah ) Twain。Shania是加拿大一個民族的方言，意思就是“on my way”，在路上.
Shania Twain, a successful Canadian singer and songwriter. She’s a country music diva who has done much to popularize country music to a wider US audience, and has reinvented herself in the UK as a pop star.
Her beauty is undeniable, but her talent in music lies much beyond that. She holds the record for the most best-selling country music albums ever, and her fans are all over the world. She is Shania Twain.
Shania小時候就曆盡生活的艱苦。Shania Twain的原名叫Eilleen Edwards，但是在Shania只有幾歲的時候，她的生父就和母親離婚，之後也再沒有過問過母女的生活。
After the divorce, her mother married Jerry Twain, a native Canadian lumberjack. With a low income and 5 children to feed, the family grew up in relative poverty, on the edge of starvation.
Recalling her childhood many years later when Shania said: “Most kids feel inferior if they don’t have the right jeans on. I was way beyond that. I was worried about what was in my Lunch. Nobody knew we were hungry, and I did everything I could to hide it.”
Shania would often take bread smeared with mustard to school in her lunch pail, just to make it appear that she had a lunch, terrified that the authorities would find out about the family’s desperate situation and take her away.
在一些西方國家，如果父母因為貧窮而無力讓孩子過上安逸生活的話，政府部門就會強行把小孩子帶走送到一些慈善機構。所以，這也是為什麼小Shania要在外面掩飾“我有飯吃，我很快樂”。因為她害怕被政府部門從父母身邊帶走。而mustard，芥麼醬，是小Shania能找到得最便宜的麵包餡了。因為芥麼醬通常是餐館裏的免費調料。
這裡我們就可以了解一個詞，poverty, 貧窮。Live in poverty，就是生活貧困。So, Shania’s family lived in poverty. Shania家境貧寒。
They probably lived below the poverty line. 他們可能生活在貧困線。Poverty line, 貧困線。
Although living in poverty, Shania’s mother, Sharon，discovered her daughter’s singing talent, and encouraged her to sing in nursing homes and bars. Her mother inspired Shania to be a singer and to fulfill her dreams for the future, even when life was hard.
隨著年齡的增長，Shania自己開始寫歌，而且組織了樂隊。
可是在她22歲準備開始獨立生活的時候，她的繼父和母親卻突然遭遇車禍去世。
After being informed of the sad news, Shania went back home from Toronto where she would start her new life. She performed as a singer at a club to support her younger sister and brothers until they could take care of themselves. Several years later, Shania resumed her music career, and finally, the wheel of fortune turned their way.
這段酒吧歌手的經歷給Shania Twain打下了今後開拓音樂事業的基礎。從這時候起，她開始主攻鄉村音樂，並且在其中融入了很多現代流行音樂的元素。如今Shania Twain被稱為：the queen of country music.
