Mahmoud Abbas, said, "From the heart of the city of peace we open our hearts to a fair peace, and from Bethlehem we have called on Israel to respond to the real need for peace that ensures the comprehensive end to the occupation and the solving of final status issues by implementing the two states solution, by establishing an independent Palestinian state, side by side with Israel. We renew our appreciation and acceptance of President Obama's efforts and his help with the establishment of a Palestinian state and for the settlements activity."
