The World Health Organization says A-H1N1 flu vaccine manufacturers are on track to start delivering the first batches in September.
Marie-Paule Kieny, the WHO's vaccine director, said on Thursday several drug makers have started testing the flu vaccine in humans. She says early safety results should be available next month, clearing the way for its use. Kieny also insisted that speeding the vaccine to the market will not compromise its safety.
Marie-Paule Kieny, WHO's Vaccine Director, said, "And we expect that the regulators will make decision on this vaccine that will allow use in population during September, where the first authorization may be in September, and then going further into October when the dossier are ready and are submitted by the manufacturers."
