Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has formally endorsed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for a second term as president. That is some important challenges Iran will face as Ahmadinejad begins his second term as the Islamic Republic's president.
The endorsement clears the way for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to take the oath of office in Parliament on August 5.
The endorsement ceremony came against a backdrop of opposition calls for an investigation of the disputed presidential election in June.
But Iran's supreme leader called the election a "golden page" in Iran's political history, and said "The Islamic ruling system is alive."
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, "The enemy should not be mistaken in its understanding of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic ruling system. They must not wrongly suppose that they can bring the Islamic revolution and system to its knees with their useless measures."
Ahmadinejad said Iran stands united.
