Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has defended the decision to resume talks with Pakistan. India's main opposition party is slamming him for not first securing a clear commitment from Islamabad to fight terrorism.

Manmohan Singh, said, "It is impossible for any government in India to work towards full normalization of our relations with Pakistan unless the government of Pakistan fulfills in letter and spirit the commitment not to allow its territory to be used in any manner for terrorist activities against India."

Manmohan Singh, said, "We have no interest whatsoever in destabilizing Pakistan nor do we harbor any ill intent toward Pakistan. We believe that a stable, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan, living in peace with its neighbor, is in India's own interest."
