US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says that "irreversible de-nuclearisation" is the only viable option for the DPRK. Attending the ASEAN Security conference, Clinton said China, Japan, Russia and South Korea all agree with Washington on this goal.

Clinton warned the DPRK would face "unrelenting pressure of global sanctions" unless the DPRK leaders revised their position on its nuclear program. U.S. officials have said Clinton wanted to stress Washington's interest in ASEAN, a region home to 570 million people and with a combined economic output of 1.1 trillion US dollars.
