US VP urges Iraq to make political progress

US Vice President, Joe Biden, is visiting Iraq and he has pressed Iraqi leaders to do more to foster national reconciliation. His comments come as concerns grow that a lack of political progress is fueling violence in Iraq.

After meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, Biden said he came with a message of continuing support for the country even as the US military pulls back. Al-Maliki has called the US withdrawal from cities a "great victory".

But, on Friday, he expressed gratitude for US support. Biden also met with top American military commanders and diplomats to discuss the future of the American mission in the country, the security situation and the capabilities of Iraqi forces.
