Japanese Vice Defense Minister Kohei Masuda has met with his South Korean counterpart, Chang Soo-manto, in Seoul. They discussed how to deal with the DPRK.

Masuda said bilateral ties between the Japanese and South Korean armies have improved since the last time he was in Seoul nearly nine years ago. While working to come up with a common strategy regarding the DPRK, both leaders hoped to improve their bilateral relations. The meeting was a follow-up to talks between both countries' defense ministers in April, and it comes as Pyongyang warns of a military drill off its coast. Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been running high since the DPRK conducted its second nuclear test in late May.
