The United States wants India and Pakistan to resume peace talks, but would leave it to the two countries to decide the way forward.
US Undersecretary of State, William Burns said on Thursday in New Delhi that the US has always welcomed better ties between India and Pakistan.

The comment follows a move by India to pause a peace process with Pakistan after ten gunmen killed more than a hundred-and-fifty people in Mumbai last November.
On this score, Burns noted that Pakistan has a special responsibility to bring to justice the perpetrators behind the attacks.
Earlier in the day, Burns met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Burns said the US shared India's security concerns and wanted Pakistan to act strongly against militant groups operating from there.
