South Korean officials have refused to confirm reports that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is preparing to fire a medium-range missile from its southeastern region.

The Yonhap News Agency reported the developments Tuesday by quoting a lawmaker who had been briefed by defense officials.

South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman, Won Tae-jae, questioned the accuracy of the information saying it was "unreasonable".

The spokesman said movement that could be seen as a direct threat to South Korea has not yet been found.
