Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, has sworn in a new government composed largely of members of his Fatah Party and without representation from bitter rival group,

Hamas. Salam Fayyad retains his position as prime minister. Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, has rejected the new Cabinet, describing it as illegal.

Hamas and Fatah have so far failed to form a unity government despite five rounds of dialogue.
