My terrific trip to Harbin

cctv.com 02-24-2004 10:43

This is a three stop line extending from Harbin eastward. First stop being A Cheng, right beside Harbin. The ancient capital of the Jin Dynasty, ancestors of the Qing Dynasty, around that time, they call themselves Nvzhen, a magnificent nomadic hunting people, later known as the Manchu people. These people moved from A Cheng later to Beijing. So the two cities are like sisters. I couldn't have fun there in the Yuquan hunting ground near A Cheng, cause when the moment came for me to pull the trigger, I realize it was not really up to me to decide a life, so chickened out on the last minute.

From A cheng further east I landed at a small town called Weihe. People come over here to see the steam engine automotive train, pulling logs down from the mountains. That was one moment I won't forget. Standing in the snow and waited and waited and shifted feet against hard-frozen ground, waiting for the steam engine locomotive train, which finally emerged from the forests puffing white steam, shivering, slowly rolling its way over. It's beautiful.

The trip winded up at Yabuli, one of the top names when it comes to skiing in China. They have very nice experienced coaches here and the according to experienced skiers I鈥檝e talked to, the slopes and design are "not bad".

Next winter, if you have time... a trip around Harbin would be one choice.
