Terrific trip to Changchun

cctv.com 02-13-2004 12:11

Changchun is just one of many cities in northern China trying to make some use of the most obvious natural resource at this time of the year -- "Ice and Snow".

The city is famous for being the "industrious city", China's Detroit. It may not sound like a sexy place to visit, but I got to know Chuangchun for the first time as the legendary place where Chairman Mao Zedong's private sedan "Red Flag" was born! Red "Jieda", the most recognizable and affordable Taxi model all over China also comes from this city. I love Audi TT and wouldn't mind my future husband drives an Audi A8 or A6...(kidding! I am still trying to squeeze time to get my driving license...Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit China No. 1 Automobile Ltd, where these babies are born, but if you have time visit there (known as yi qi) and test-drive for me, please check it out for me!

The city has undergone a facelift during the last couple years to attract tourist. If you have one week to spend in Changchun, I would recommend you to cruise around the city for one day, visiting the Manchurian Palace followed by a nice meal in the "restaurant street" downtown. Then for the rest of the whole time, stay and play in Jingyuetan Natural Reserve Park, where you can find what you have been promised and what you come here for 鈥ice, snow, forest, winter action. After have been Skiing during the day, sleep in one of those cute wooden villas at night...

Well, If you prefer comfortable bed more than romantic cocooning, I have test- slept at Shangri-La Hotel and Jin Hu Hotel for you, both of them are great: Shangri- la's impeccable service and Jin Hu's beautiful villa houses-- The Choice is yours.

The only bummer of this trip was it didn't snow a flake during the whole week. But thank god there were still a thin layer of snow left on the ground so I managed to present a visually decent "ice and snow wonderland" to you.

Enjoy the show and let me know what you think of it!
