China launched its title defense by sweeping England 5-0 at the 11th Sudirman Cup world team badminton championships on Sunday.

China opened with Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng taking on Robert Blair and Christopher Adcock of England in the men's doubles. The Chinese pair, ranked 7th in the world, proved dominant throughout the whole game, winning the match 21-15, 21-14 in only 35 minutes.

Then, 20-year-old Wang Lin took on Sarah Walker in the women's singles. They staged a see-saw battle at the beginning of the match as the score was even at 13-13. Wang gradually took control and won the first set 21-15. Wang then increased China's lead to 2-0 by beating her opponent 21-11 after the second set.

"Super Dan", Lin Dan, the Olympic men's singles champion, defeated Andrew Smith 21-15, 21-18 in the third tie. In the women's doubles, Zhang Yawen and Zhao Tingting overpowered Gabrielle White and Jennifer Wallwork of Britain 21-12, 21-11.

In the mixed-doubles, He Hanbin and Yu Yang sealed the win for China by beating their opponents in straight sets.
