Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud confirmed dead

A Taliban commander has confirmed that Pakistan's Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a US missile strike. Earlier, Pakistan's foreign minister said intelligence reports confirmed the accuracy of the information.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan's Foreign Minister told reporters in Islamabad that Pakistan's Taliban chief, Baitullah Mehsud is dead.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan FM, said, "Based on my information, the news coming out about Baitullah Mehsud is correct, this is true and he has been taken out."

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik says the US missile attack killed Mehsud and his brother, seven bodyguards as well as his wife. He said people were seen mourning in the settlement close to Makeen village, where Mehsud was tracked and targeted.

Pakistani intelligence officials say Mehsud's body was buried in the village of Nardusai in South Waziristan, near the site of the missile strike.
