The Democratic People's Republic of Korea's number two leader, Kim Yong Nam says his country is not ready to resume disarmament negotiations over its nuclear program.

He says this is necessary because the US and its allies do not respect the nation's sovereignty.

He stressed that sovereign rights should be respected and equality restored among the countries involved in the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
Kim said his country's nuclear weapons serve as a war deterrence to safeguard peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.
He also said the DPRK's struggle for independence and equality is in conformity with the ideals and common interests of the Non-Aligned Movement.
