China's Ministry of Health says there are 24 new cases of A-H1N1 flu, bringing the total number of infections on the mainland to 165.

Following the WHO decision to raise the pandemic alert to its highest level, China is increasing preventative measures that are focused on the community level.

Hong Kong has 11 new A/H1N1 cases for a total of 84. As of June 13th, Taiwan reported seven new cases, bringing the island's total to 44.

At a health service center in Beijing, medical staff give brochures on influenza control and prevention to patients. From June 13th, all patients in the local community who have symptoms need to visit the screening clinic.

He Xiong, Deputy Director, Beijing Disease Control & Prevention Center, said, "The ultimate goal of prevention work is to stop the flu from spreading over wide areas in communities."

Meanwhile, the Beijing Tourism Administration is asking three-star and higher hotels to install infrared monitors, and put guests from areas where the flu is confirmed in rooms on separate floors or buildings.

The measures being taken to prevent the further spread of A-H1N1 include increasing public awareness of disease control and prevention and healthy personal habits, such as cleanliness.
