The US special envoy to the Middle East is in Jordan, on the latest stop in his diplomatic shuttle through the region.
George Mitchell held talks in Amman with Jordan's King Abdullah, as part of US efforts to push forward the stalled Middle East peace process.
The envoy also met with Egypt's foreign minister in Cairo earlier on Thursday.
Mitchell said the US is working to achieve its objective of comprehensive peace in the Middle East, including a Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with Israel.
During his stop in Cairo, Mitchell also met with the Arab League's Secretary General, Amr Moussa. Afterwards, Moussa called for moves beyond simply agreeing on the two-state solution.
He told reporters that "a comprehensive peace process is the goal". Mitchell's latest trip through the region is also set to include stops in Lebanon and Syria.
