On February 21 34 years ago, late US President Richard Nixon visited Beijing. This historic event helped resume the US-China relations twenty three years after the Chinese civil strife that led to the defeat of Chiang Kaisheik, leader of the nationalist government. Many countries followed the US initiative and quickly established diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China during the Cold War.

Joining us now in the first part of our program is Professor Mei Renyi from the Beijing Foreign Studies University. In the second part, we will present a recorded interview that I did four years ago with Richard Nixon's daughter, Julie Nixon Eisenhower and her husband David Eisenhower. Let's review the stormy and meaningful life of Richard Nixon in the living memory of his daughter in this special edition.
